Fall 2022 Stewardship Emphasis

This year’s stewardship theme is entitled, “Faith Across Generations.” The series focuses on the intergenerational connections that God has placed not only in our congregation at Holy Cross but in all other aspects of our lives as well. This year we invite you to think about the framework of Time, Talent, and Treasure; then consider how your gifts may fall within the topics of the Stewardship Faith Across Generations program and where your gifts can be applied:

September 18 – The Bible
September 25 – Prayer
October 9 – Worship
October 16 – Generosity/Service/Vocation
October 23 – Music/Hymnody

Dear Holy Cross Member,

It’s that time of year again for us to reflect and prayerfully consider what it means to be a steward of God’s gifts and blessings. As stewards, we recognize that everything we have has been given by God, and we are also given the opportunity to share with each other and our neighbors those gifts and blessings.

Traditionally, stewardship has been simplified to three main ways of giving: giving of Time, Talent, and Treasure. It is a good framework in which to categorize the gifts and blessings we’ve been given. The Stewardship Board encourages you to put this framework into practice this next year.

The overarching focus of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in the last year has been to strengthen intergenerational connections in all ministry programs. This year, we would like to focus on this same intergenerational theme in the context of stewardship in our Faith Across Generations program. First, what do we as Christians have to learn about stewardship from God’s Word? Second, how can stewardship be applied to all generations of our Church family?

Let us consider God’s Word in 1 Peter 4:10 – “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” Note that there is no specific mention of money, or time, or talent, but rather “whatever gift he has received.” God has given each of us different gifts to serve Him and our neighbors, and we should faithfully and cheerfully use those gifts to His glory. Also note that there is no one kind of God’s grace, but rather it can be administered “in its various forms.” Therefore, being a steward will look different for each Christian with our unique gifts and our unique ability to administer those gifts. Praise be to God that He has fearfully and wonderfully made us to uniquely serve His Church and our neighbors. From the oldest member to the youngest, each one of us has gifts to use for God’s glory and we should encourage the use of our gifts across all generations.

With this in mind, please consider what gifts God has given you that you can use to serve God and your neighbor, and further, how you can use that gift to teach others from a generation different than your own about stewardship. Think about the framework of Time, Talent, and Treasure, then consider how your gifts may fall within the topics of the Stewardship Faith Across Generations program and where your gifts can be applied:

September 18 – The Bible

September 25 – Prayer

October 9 – Worship

October 16 – Generosity/Service/Vocation

October 23 – Music/Hymnody

We look forward to this time of us coming together as a Church body and considering how we will continue to serve God across all generations. Time & Talent surveys and Commitment cards will be available in the Welcome Center starting September 18th, and will be due October 23rd. Note there will be a question about offering envelopes on the Commitment card, so please fill that out so we know if you will need envelopes next year.

Faithfully in Christ, The Stewardship Board
