Holy Cross Lutheran Preschool Curriculum and Classrooms

The class size for the 3 year olds is limited to 12 children. The 4 year old class is limited to 16 children. Extended Education is limited to 10 children that are 3-5 years old. All Preschool teachers have Degrees in Education. If the Preschool class size exceeds 8 children, then an assistant is added. Staff members are carefully selected for their education, experience and love of working with young children. Our school year calendar follows the Fort Zumwalt school district for major holiday breaks. Our program exceeds state regulations. Our curriculum focuses on the following:

3 Year Old Classes

• Colors
• Numbers
• Shapes
• Basic Math Skills
• First Name Recognition
• Weekly Themes
• Bible Lessons

4 Year Old Classes

• Review Colors, Numbers, Shapes + Word Recognition
• Letters – Recognition, Phonics, Handwriting, Create a letter Book with 2 projects/letter
• Increased Math Skills
• First Name Recognition and Writing Name
• Last Name and Address Recognition
• Weekly Themes – Increased Detail & New Projects
• Bible Lessons

Weekly Themes
Parents are given a monthly calendar and a weekly parent letter detailing instruction. Themes are introduced through literature, posters, finger plays, and songs. Themes are reinforced through hands on art projects, games, and show & share.

• Social Topics – Family, Feelings, Neighborhoods, Community Workers
• Seasons & Seasonal Holidays
• Nursery Rhymes & Literature
• Health Topics – Body, Senses, Healthy Habits, Nutrition
• Science Topics – Shadows, Outer Space, Transportation, Rocks, Dinosaurs, Weather, Plants, Animals (Farm, Bugs & Birds, Ocean, Zoo, Pet)
